STUDENT SEARCH PLATFORM REDESIGN
UX/UI + Visual Design
College Board’s Student Search platform enables colleges to identify prospective students from a dataset of millions of records. Admissions teams rely on this system to filter, segment, and order student lists for recruitment campaigns.
However, the legacy interface made it difficult for administrators to explore datasets efficiently. Complex filtering, unclear hierarchy, and repeated action steps slowed down the process of building and ordering student lists.
As part of a platform modernization effort, I led UX improvements to the Student Search experience — simplifying dataset exploration, improving filtering logic, and aligning the interface with College Board’s evolving product ecosystem.
The redesign focused on helping admissions teams identify, save, and order student cohorts more efficiently.

Overview
Legacy Experience
The previous interface relied on:
• Multi-column filter panels
• Repeated action controls
• Dense data groupings
• Outdated component structures
This created difficulty for administrators trying to understand how filters impacted available students.
Final Experience
The updated design introduced:
• Single-column progressive filtering
• Sticky header showing real-time student counts
• Clear hierarchical grouping of dataset filters
• Improved filter exploration and dataset visibility
• Alignment with College Board’s evolving design system
This allowed administrators to explore datasets more fluidly and build targeted student lists faster.
